Apple is opening up access to its iWork suite of productivity apps to consumers without an iPhone or a Mac.
Until now, using iWork and accessing documents created with it was only possible with an Apple iCloud account plus an Apple device -- an iPhone, an iPad or a Mac.
But Apple is now letting anyone sign up to a beta version of the service that will run on potentially any compatible computer internet browser, whether installed on a PC or a Mac.
Once signed up, users will also get a free 1GB of cloud storage for saving files created using iWork.
Over the past 12 months, Apple has been focusing more and more on what it calls continuity, the ability to seamlessly start doing something on one Apple device and complete the task on another.
By offering access to iWork via non-Apple devices, the company will be able to take this one step further and give non-Apple device owners a taste of what it's like to use Apple's products at the same time.
